God Heard My Prayer, Jessica Maldonado

I was born in the suburb of San Pedro Sula in Honduras into the Catholic religion. At the age of six I did not know what a Catholic was; I just knew I was one of them. In the United States all my friends were Catholics. So to hear people say that they were Christians made them sound weird, like an outsider. However, throughout junior high and high school, I was the one that felt like an outsider in my church. When I did not go to church, I would feel bad, but when I would go, I was bored to tears and wanted to leave. It was dead. I always thought that it was funny to see the church overflowing with people on Christmas, Easter and even Ash Wednesday, but hardly anyone inside on the rest of the days of the year.

Every night, since I could remember, I would pray. One night during my sophomore year in high school I prayed for my God to take me to where He was. I wanted Him to be real to me. I was tired of the old, traditional way of thinking that God was so far away. Praise the Lord that He heard my prayer! I found the local church and the practice of calling on the name of the Lord. I have enjoyed calling on the Lord (Romans 10:12-13) to the uttermost anytime, anywhere, with anyone. It is so precious to enjoy His name and be brought back to the enjoyment day by day and in all my situations. In the local church I have felt at home, this is my home.
